175 years of The Straits Times’ headlines

This project commemorates The Straits Times' 175th anniversary by creating an interactive data visualization that allows readers to explore nearly two centuries of Singapore's history through the lens of newspaper headlines and articles.

We digitized and analyzed thousands of newspaper archives, developing a comprehensive database of historical content. Using advanced text analysis and data visualization techniques, we created an interactive timeline that highlights key events, tracks evolving language patterns, and reveals changing societal interests across different eras. The platform features a custom search interface that enables users to trace specific terms and topics throughout the newspaper's history.

The project received multiple design awards and a resource for studying Singapore's social and cultural evolution. The interactive platform continues to serve as a living document of the nation's journey, recording thousands of user interactions since its launch.
